YEAR | 2020 |
COMPANY | Taylor |
PROJECT | Sydney Opera House Concert Hall Renewal |
PRIZE | MERIT |
Having to establish access and egress up and down in and out of arguably one of Australia’s most iconic landmarks is not most people’s idea of fun let alone choice of work. But that’s exactly what Taylor Constructions did deep inside the inner workings of Sydney’s Opera House.
Designing safe ways in and around the inside uppermost part of the iconic sails is no easy feat. Bearing in mind that most structural elements of this wonderful building are heritage listed with a bevy of eyes on the inside that rival the ones outside. Having to upgrade and replace critical engineering components, requires time and patience.
A well-coordinated approach and cooperative relationship with the trusted custodians was evident, in that the Taylors site team was intentionally set up on site six (6) months ahead of the project commencement date to take on the problematic situations ahead of them.
Throw in a few strategically placed 24hr real time cameras to capture every motion without any damage or incident and a dedicated engineering team from Austria to undertake the detailed work, makes for a worthy Merit in a very competitive field in 2020.
